We’re thrilled to announce that we’ve recently been crowned winners of the Environmental, Low Carbon award at this year’s Staffordshire Chambers Business Awards.

As the first ever winners of this category, we’re delighted that we’re increasingly becoming recognised for our sustainable practices.

Sustainability is one of our five business values here at Stone, so it’s highly important to us that we not only help our customers meet their sustainability goals, but we also adhere to this value ourselves with the help of our onsite IT recycling facility.

Speaking about this achievement, Martin Ruston, Risk and Compliance Manager at Stone comments: “Stone were delighted to be announced as the first winners of the new Environmental category at the Staffordshire Chamber Business awards. To be recognised for our commitment to continued business impact reduction, is a great tribute to the efforts of all our staff and one in which they can be very proud.”

We not only pride ourselves on our ability to carry out IT recycling securely for our customers, but also work alongside various charities such as Get Online at Home where compliant-standard computers are re-used, IT Schools Africa, where non-compliant EU assets are utilised. If these options aren’t possible, the end-of-life IT assets are securely broken down on-site in line with compliance regulations and ensure they will never end up at a landfill.

We also understand that when recycling hardware, it’s important that the sensitive data on the device is handled correctly to avoid data-breaches and heavy fines. We pride ourselves on ensuring that the process is handled securely, from collection in our vehicles fitted with cameras to erasing data securely, ensuring the safe and sustainably-friendly disposal of hardware.

With this principle, we have also succeeded in retaining certification of BS 8900 (Sustainable Development), as one of the few organisations that hold this, it reflects our desire to reduce the negative impact of waste environmentally and socially.
